Landfall Games and TinyBuild’s upcoming physics-based platforming simulator, Clustertruck, is due for release at the end of the month on September 27th on Steam for PC.
A trailer was recently let loose for the game, featuring a bunch of trucks clustered together, racing through windmills, dodging lasers, falling down cliffs and avoiding getting squashed while attempting to cross the finish line. You can check the game out with the trailer below.
Now here’s the real kicker: you’re not playing a truck.
The actual game is a platformer. The objective is to use the trucks as platformers to avoid touching the ground and getting to the end of the level without dying, without getting squashed, without getting crushed, without getting zapped to pieces by lasers and without succumbing to the one hundred and one other obstacles and challenges set to prevent you from getting to the finish line.
It’s a truly original take on the typical Super Mario platforming gimmick, both for the sake of its physics-infused gameplay mechanics and the fact that players are forced to get creative thanks to the seemingly random gameplay elements working against them. Creative thinking and fast reflexes become the order of the day.
What’s more is that there are special abilities and powers to unlock along the way. Players will be able to use grappling hooks to get across the trucks, as well as bullet-time powers to slow things down and gain a bearing on where to go and how to get there.
The levels are an eclectic mix of everything from snowy bridges to Tron-esque cyber tunnels. There’s no want for thematic diversity.
You can look to get you hands on the game starting September 27th for only $14.99. For more info feel free to check out the Steam store page.
