Mass Effect: Andromeda PS4 Pro Trailer Previews 4K Gameplay

Electronic Arts and BioWare released some new footage of Mass Effect: Andromeda for the PlayStation 4 Pro, the upcoming half-generation upgrade for the PS4 that supposedly will allow gamers to experience media and gaming at 4K resolution.

The trailer is only three minutes long, featuring a look at the player interacting with some consoles, looking around in a giant cavernous area known as The Vault, and doing some light platforming to get across the terrain. You can check out the video below, which scales up to 4K streaming resolution.

The context of the gameplay is completely lost on the fact that it seems to come right out of the middle of a mission where we have no idea what’s going on. We can only assume that players are there to investigate something that led them there based on some other undisclosed circumstance.

Before the ground crew can get answers the whole Vault seems to fall victim to an explosive of some kind, causing them to retreat in haste. I’m not really sure what’s up with that Asari but during that daring escape at the end of the clip they seem to be running like some kind of a bow-legged comedy character from an anime.

I’m beginning to think that the Asari on your team might be there for comedic purposes.

The video repeatedly mentions that the newest Mass Effect will support 4K ultra-HD rendering on the PS4 Pro, but it’s a little hard to believe that they’ll be able to achieve high fidelity gaming at native 4K on the PS4 Pro’s rather underwhelming specs.

Everything showcased in the video above doesn’t look bad, but there’s also nothing particularly groundbreaking about the content either. There’s not much else to say until we get to see more gameplay footage, along with the dialogue and combat in the upcoming title. Mass Effect: Andromeda is due for release next year for the PS4, PS4 Pro, Xbox One and PC.
