Devolver Digital and Flying Wild Hog dropped a new trailer for the upcoming first-person shooter, Shadow Warrior 2. The new trailer features 12 minutes of gameplay, getting gamers geeked, gamed and giddy for the October release of the sequel to the recently rebooted 1990s shooter.
Blues spotted the trailer that was posted up recently over on Devolver’s YouTube channel, featuring a look at the game’s chainsaw, katana and Cyber Wang. Check it out below.
The video starts with Wang slicing and dicing the Eastern demons with the katana before switching to akimbo pistols decked out in a crazy Oriental design.
I’m not sure if you’ve been introduced to the game’s mutating demons before, but during one sequence in a cave where Wang shoots a little bugger, it mutates and morphs into a really big bugger. Using a mix of a shotgun and some magic, Wang manages to make short work of the demon.
The video then progresses where Wang takes on some androids who swoop in and try to cut him up with fans. After she swipes and slashes at the action hero, Wang manages to circumcise her CPU with his katana… right up the middle.
Later in the video we get to see more cybernetically enhanced weapons as Wang ends up in a cyberpunk society, using laser weapons and an awesome, glowing sawblade. Most of all the gameplay videos before now have focused on the more out-door segments in the forest, but this is the first time we get to see the futuristic setting and it looks cool.
It’s the kind of cyber-Tokyo you would expect from most sci-fi animes and other cyberpunk literature. Neon glowing lights and trees set amidst classical shrubbery and Japanese architecture fused with modern technology and concrete skyscrapers help bring the atmosphere to life like so few cyberpunk properties have.
I would be remiss not to compare the visuals in some way to Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon, which is sort of what the level reminded me of. My interest levels have definitely been raised.
You can look for Shadow Warrior 2 to launch on October 13th for PC followed by a release on Xbox One and PS4. Need more info? Check out the GOG page.
