The Last Guardian Gets Delayed Again, Will Release This December

I knew it, a delay was inevitable. Today Shuhei Yoshida and CEO Kaz Hira took to the Interwebs to announce that The Last Guardian will be delayed to December 6th, 2016. The Last Guardian’s most recent release date was set for October 25th, for PS4, and will now be pushed back by a couple of weeks to polish the game.

Let’s look back to the beginning of The Lost Guardian, I mean… The Last Guardian’s development history. Starting back in 2007, Team Ico announced at E3 in 2009 that the adventuristic game would release sometime in 2011 exclusively for the PS3.

After the team went through some delays afterwards, some of the dev team departed from Sony, which was followed by some “hardware problems” hindering the game’s progress, forcing the team to delay The Last Guardian to 2012.

The Last Guardian made some major appearances at E3 2015, and E3 2016. With the most recent arrival the dev team announced that the game would drop this year on October 25th. As of today, we learn from CEO Kaz Hira that…

This was later followed up by Shuhei Yoshida, who posted on the PlayStation.blog:

“The Last Guardian development team is fast approaching major milestones in production and has made the tough decision to delay the release of The Last Guardian a few weeks. The Last Guardian will launch on December 6, 2016.”

Although the game has been delayed by a couple of weeks, there are some fans that are still optimistic about the game, saying that at least it will release this year. However, this has me concerned about The Last Guardian hearing from Yoshida that…

“We have encountered more bugs than anticipated while in the final stages of development.”

When I read bugs, I thought of games like Fallout 4 and The Division, were both games are broken to some significant degree. Hopefully, the devs can pull the game together and bring us a fun adventure puzzle game proper.

The Last Guardian is set to drop this year for PS4 on December 6th for North America, December 7th for Japan, and December 9th for Europe. For more details on the game you can head on over to the PlayStation.blog.
