Steep Pre-Alpha Gameplay Video Takes A Wingsuit Journey Down A Mountain

Ubisoft has been keeping a tight lid on Steep, the extreme sports title that sees players gliding, flying, snowboarding and skiing down the dangerous peaks of sky-kissed mountains. Well, some gamers have uploaded video footage of the pre-alpha just before it was hit with an NDA.

The footage comes courtesy of YouTube user Alexis Alexey, featuring six minutes of gameplay. You can check it out below.

The video starts with a wingsuit diver cutting it close while scaling down the mountain side, picking up points for close calls and skimming across the breathtaking edges that lead to death’s door.

Alexis doesn’t do so hot and fails a bunch of times, but it’s pretty cool seeing how the multiplayer is setup and how you can pick up points flying close to the tips of the trees and slopes of the mountain.

One of the more impressive bits of the game is the light snow mist that blows off the tips of the snowy edges. It’s a neat looking effect and Ubisoft did a great job bringing the visuals to life.

I don’t know how much replay value a game like this will have or whether or not there will be adequate enough challenges to hold the average gamer’s attention, but it looks polished up for what it’s trying to achieve. I can imagine only jumping off of so many gut-wrenching precipices before the game devolves into ragdolling the athletes around and then getting bored and popping in GTA V to play some ridiculous mods.

Anyway, if you’re in the mood for some extreme sports and you miss the wintery sports games that used to be available all throughout the PS2 era, you can look for Steep to go live on PC, PS4 and Xbox One at some point in December of this year. You can learn more about the game by visiting the official website.
