Engage Pixel announced recently that their gravity shooter Captain Kaon is currently available in Early Access on Steam. The game is available for $6.99 but you can get it for 10% off the normal price for only $6.29 during the first week of being made available in Early Access.
The game is a throwback to 1980s arcade 360-degree shooters. Players familiar with games like Asteroids will be right at home with Captain Kaon, which sees gamers flying through cosmic space stations and deadly asteroids with enemies shooting incessantly at you from almost every direction.
The game reminds me a lot of the classic Thexder, only you don’t get to land and walk around like in Thexder. You do, however, get to open up a can of space ‘splosions and blast the living daylights out of any and everything in your way, including everything that fires at you. You can see what the gameplay is like in the video trailer below.
The game features 360 mouse aiming with twin-stick gameplay. There’s a throwback Amiga art-style employed to give gamers the impression that they’re playing something from right out of 1986.
Players will need to battle through the forces of a revolution taking place on the colony of Ceres, where rogue miners are withholding resources from Earth and the only one who can stop them is Captain Kaon.
Players will have to battle the revolting miners, stop the insurgency against Earth and restore peace and deuterium fuel to the galaxy.
The game is currently in Early Access and plans on staying there up until spring of 2017, so expect it to last in EA for anywhere between four and six months as the second campaign set to take place on Mars – which will feature 17 missions – is brought to completion.
