Tron is probably one of the most underrated, coolest sci-fi brands out there that Disney has misused and underutilized for the past 30 years. Don’t worry, though, Rockstar Games knows how to thrust the franchise back into the spotlight by paying homage to the famed lightcycles from the dangerously digital cyber-world.
The latest update for GTA Online is called “Deadline” and it’s the name of a new Adversary Mode that features gamers taking to the rooftops in a deadly battle of lightcycles.
Much like the lightcycle battles in the original Tron and the visually spectacular but story-deficient Tron: Legacy, the ones in GTA Online allow you to stream hardened light trails behind the bikes that are deadly when crashing into them.
You can get a glimpse of what the gameplay is like with the new mode and vehicle via the trailer below.
As showcased, players will be able to battle through the new Adversary mode using the Nagasaki Shotaro, it’s designed a little like a low-riding Harley but has the neon light lines like the custom bikes from the Tron series. I’m a little curious why they didn’t make the bikes look more futuristic and instead went with a more traditional bike design with trippy colors?
The mode looks like a ton of fun and as if it rekindles the super awesome multiplayer modes from Tron: Evolution. There are also power-ups, like the lightning symbol that makes you go faster or the up-arrow symbol that allows you to boost jump over opponents.
There are also new maps designated for the mode, but I’m curious if they also have some cool new electronic chillout trance to match?
This would have been the perfect time to introduce a new radio stationed themed around Daft Punk.
Anyway, you can learn more about the new mode by hitting up the official Rockstar Games website. The new lightcycle and Deadline mode is available right now for PC, Xbox One and PS4.
