Playvision’s online multiplayer car combat game, Metal Carnage, recently made its way online. The cartoon-style action game features huge arenas with deathmatch games for up to 10 players at a time.
The game is currently available on Steam for $9.99, but during the first week of being on sale you can get it for 25% off the normal price, so you only have to pay $8.49.
Metal Carnage is an indie take on classics like Vigilante 8. It features two different game modes, including regular deathmatch for anywhere between one-on-one bouts all the way up to 10 player free-for-alls. There’s also a team deathmatch mode where players will pair off in two teams with up to five members on each team. Whichever team scores the most points wins when the time runs out.
The game features 20 different vehicles that range from classic roadsters to high-powered offroad vehicles. You can see what the gameplay is like with the video below from Funny Games TV.
Weapons range from machine guns and lasers to flamethrowers and rocket launchers. There’s also the ability to customize your car with armor, spoilers, bumpers and various paint jobs as well.
It’s a lo-fi take on a classic combat car arena sub-genre that has sadly gone by the wayside in recent years. The closest thing we’ve had to a revival was Mad Max from Avalanche Studios. Classics like Twisted Metal, Vigilante 8 and Interstate 76 have sadly been shelved for the time being. I’m not one for remasters and remakes, but Interstate 76 is long overdo for making a comeback.
Of course, if you don’t mind a low-budget take on the classic 3D car combat concept with a cartoony art-style and a multiplayer-only design, you can check out Metal Carnage right now over on the Steam store page.
