Bandai Namco released a new trailer for Tekken 7, featuring some of the game’s most iconic characters, along with a look at the game’s cinematic storytelling and famed arcade combat system.
The trailer is just under two minutes long and it doesn’t really showcase anything you haven’t already seen before, but it does give you a good mapping of the kind of roster expanse you can expect, as well as the sort of arcade fighting that Bandai Namco is going for. Check it out below.
Most of the big news for the game has already been revealed, including the cinematic story mode that will heavily revolve around characters such as Akuma, Heihachi, his wife and Kazuya, as well as Jin.
The fighting is fast and color, similar to previous games in the series and the back and forth combos and counters are standard-fare to what they’ve been showcasing over the past two years.
I would have liked to have seen more technical implementations, such as mid-counter combos instead of the new Power Crush techniques that can basically just tank their way through hits.
I’m curious how well the story will play out now that Akuma is involved and that Harada is saying that this will wrap up the Mishima saga. I hope they can manage to focus on a new set of characters who are interesting and as fun and chaotic and divisive as the Mishima clan.
Customization is also making a return along with the new Rage Arts, which will allow players to execute powerful new combo attacks while the characters glow red. It’s Tekken’s answer to Street Fighter’s V-Trigger.
The upcoming game is due for release in early 2017. The trailer hammers that point home by also reminding gamers that for the first time in the series’ history a mainline Tekken game will be available for PC gamers via Steam, which is cool.
Tekken 7 is also due for release on PS4 and Xbox One.
