Ryan Gosling will be buddying up with film legend Harrison Ford in Ridley Scott and Denis Villeneuve’s Blade Runner 2049. The new teaser trailer just went live, giving movie and sci-fi fans something to whet their appetite leading up toward its October 6th, 2017 release date.
The film comes at a perfect time because cyberpunk fans and sci-fi aficionados can now get taste of a brand new Blade Runner in 2017 and look forward to the upcoming Cyberpunk 2077 from CD Projekt Red possibly a year or two after that.
Anyway, the teaser trailer itself was posted up on the JoBlo YouTube channel and you can check it out below.
The teaser trailer – despite being a minute and 46 seconds long – is actually light on visual material. We get a glimpse of Ryan Gosling walking through the streets of what appears to be a futuristic Los Angeles; large, vertical trucks tower down the thin streets as smog fills up the breathing space.
We get some lengthy logos and credit segments interspersed between Gosling traveling through the desert. Lovingly crafted cinematography highlights the kind of visual splendor that Villeneuve seems to be gunning for. And then we get a a nostalgic reference to the original Blade Runner with Gosling going over to the piano, reminding viewers about the sentimental relationship shared between Harrison Ford’s Decker and Sean Young’s Rachael.
And then Ford steps into the picture, giving audiences the obvious heads-up that Gosling’s character is the new Blade Runner. However, Gosling tells Ford that things have changed, and that it was easier back during the old days.
We have no idea what this really means, but the shot of Ford stepping through the doorway holding the gun like that classic shot from the first film is beautiful.
I would love to hope that the soundtrack is being put together by Daft Punk. It seems like they would be a perfect fit for the film.
You can expect to see Blade Runner 2049 in theaters at the start of October in 2017, next year.
