John Wick 2’s Second Trailer Packs Every Second With Stylish Action

Gun-fu makes a return in John Wick: Chapter 2, the second installment in the out-of-nowhere, action-thriller that took the movie theaters by storm back in 2014. It was a tactically proficient action movie that was one part GQ, one part gun-fu, and one part revenge flick. It made for a slick little thrill ride that didn’t beg for much but rewarded plenty in the entertainment department.

LionsGate is trying to capture lightning in a bottle a second time with John Wick: Chapter 2, and they’ve gone bigger, badder and more ballistic than the first. If you don’t believe me, just check out the second trailer for the movie, which seems to throw everything but the kitchen sink at Mr. Wick. You can check out the trailer below, courtesy of Kinocheck.

I still can’t seem to get a grasp on what the actual plot of the movie is. The trailers so far haven’t really explained much of anything other than that John Wick needs to get guns; a bunch of people want to kill him; and Morpheus seems to be helping Neo again.

The cinematography in some sections of the trailer look like stills of contemporary brought to life through motion. That one clip in the subway looks great. That sterile lab color tone offset with the highlighted blue scheme on the subway and neon pink lights really gives the scene a cool, almost minimalist, symmetrical vibe.

John Wick 2

The bloody floor and fighting really brings you back to the grounded grit of the John Wick films, though. It reminds me of a mix between current South Korean filmmaking when it comes to the violence and action but there’s this sort of French new wave undertone that permeates the John Wick universe.

The second film looks good as far as visual presentation and action is concerned, but the plot being as almost non-existent as it is makes it kind of tough to get too excited.

Anyway, you can look for the film to hit a theater near you starting February 10th in 2017.
