Lost City Of Z’s Trailer Keeps Mystery And Thrills Front And Center

A new trailer for the upcoming Lost City of Z really took me by surprise. The film stars Sons of Anarchy alum Charlie Hunnam as an explorer heading deep into territory some people wish was left uncharted.

The trailer is only a minute long but it’s intense. It’s also amazing how much they were able to pack into the time frame of a minute while making everything seem intriguing, mysterious, and thrilling, and yet avoid spoilers along the way. You have to admit, a trailer that can keep you entertained while avoiding spoilers is a rare treat in the realm of movie making these days.

You can check out the intense new trailer for yourself, courtesy of Movieclips Trailers.

Hunnam actually isn’t given a lot of screen time in the short and snappy piece. Instead, we get a lot of narrative overlay about the dangers of where his crew is venturing, and how people don’t return from where they’re going.

In between these quick snippets of sound bites we get to see equally quick snippets of visual cues where Hunnam and his mates are being chased through the jungle, savagely targeted by spears and axes like clothed animals stalked by ruthless hunters.

It’s the subdued presence of Hunnam and the others that make the trailer so standout; and it’s the juxtaposition of the beautiful cinematography that makes the film come across as profound.

Refraining from over-the-top sequences or bombastic action set-pieces helped portray a more grounded and realistic take on this particular tale that’s based on a true story.

I don’t have many films I’m looking forward to in 2017, but this is one of the few that I’m keeping on my radar thanks to the fact that there was no dubstep in the trailer, there was no giant explosions, no Cruises running, no smarmy jokes from a tin-man, and no kids in wizard capes. Sometimes a good old fashioned adventure into dangerous territory where human aggression is the most violent weapon in the region is enough to keep some movie goers entertained for an hour or two.

You can look for Lost City of Z to arrive in movie theaters nationwide beginning April, 2017. For more info feel free to visit the official Lost City of Z website. Oh yeah… and a bunch of people in the comment section were just happy that the ‘Z’ in the title didn’t stand for “Zombies”.
