Piranha Games announced that the latest mech game to hit the scene will be MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries. The game won’t be playable anytime soon and could potentially see some delays down the road, but that’s besides the point. Just recently the devs behind the game announced that MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries is set to hit PC and will arrive sometime in 2018.
I’m a huge fan of mech games and like quite a bit of genres dealing with mechs, like turn-based games and free-roaming games that contain the giant mechanical beasts that are either self-piloted or controlled by human or alien lifeforms.
To be honest, I was pretty excited to see MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries name appear on the site mw5merc.com, but I don’t know how it will hold up on release when 2018 rolls around. But, instead of judging the game well before it’s release, let’s take a look at what Mercenaries has to offer gamers.
According to the story, humanity has expanded to the stars and colonized far regions of space known as the “Inner Sphere.” This locations is where the Star League once ruled in relative stability, but later in the future countless wars erupted and slowly divided the Inner Sphere into five Successor States.
The battlefields of the Inner Sphere hone an array of devastating weapons, but none are more formidable than the Battlemech. In MechWarriors 5: Mercenaries you will take up the role of a rookie MechWarrior pilot who pushes into combat as the the Third Succession War continues to fracture the Inner Sphere.
Folks will be able to choose their faction and take part in “tactical” first-person action that focuses on PvE mech combat during the campaign. The campaign is also said to be driven by “career-based” player choices, which means if you like multiple choices in story-drive games then there’s something to look forward to.
You can watch the seven minute long pre-Alpha video showing gameplay, which comes in by Piranha Games.
