Robert Downey Jr., isn’t featured as a visible entity in the new Spider-Man: Hoemcoming trailer for very long, but he is very prominent. In fact, his voice and his presence is featured a lot in the new trailer, working as a sort of fake, surrogate, super-hero father figure to a barely pubescent Peter Parker.
In some strange alternate reality this movie could have been a sequel to the romantic comedy starring Marisa Tomei and Robert Downey Jr., called Only You… except it would have to be called Only You, Too… and it would feature Robert’s character in a high-tech armored suit and Marisa’s character with a nephew you could cling to walls. But in that alternate reality, I could totally see the movie being about Robert Downey Jr., trying to get in on Marisa Tomei’s business and centering around the pensive relations between him and her nephew.
Spider-Man: Homecoming doesn’t stray too far off from that premise, only it’s more about Parker feeling the overbearing, not-quite-a-father-figure approach that Tony Stark takes with dealing with the web-shooting, pajama-wearing high-school student.
Within the trailer we get a brief shot of Michael Keaton, Spider-Man gliding over a helicopter and a villain who will likely barely get any screen time check it out below courtesy of Movieclip Trailers.
The trailer is pretty cool in the sense that it’s bright, it’s easy to follow, it looks like it has grounded characterization and a few action-packed frills to keep audience members paying attention.
The comment section kind of broke out into reserved excitement based on whether or not Hollywood would be pushing too much political correctness, but for the most part people were a-okay with what Marvel had to showcase regarding the friendly neighborhood Spider-Man.
I’m looking forward to seeing Michael Keaton back in the fold. I guess if everyone wanted to know who would win between Batman and Iron Man, we just might get it in Spider-Man: Homecoming. The movie is due to drop in theaters on July 7th, 2017. A perfect little summer blockbuster.
