RWBY: Grimm Eclipse Becomes Available To Download On PS4

Rooster Teeth Productions announced that RWBY: Grimm Eclipse, the action-oriented, four-player cooperative beat-’em-up game based on the American anime has arrived on the PS4.

The game features the standard four-player cooperative story mode, along with the additional horde mode where players will build up defenses and fight off wave after wave of enemy forces.

There’s a minute long trailer that they posted up recently to give gamers a quick heads-up about the title becoming available on PS4 today, January 17th. You can check it out below.

The gameplay is like a poor Americanized version of Marvelous’ games, namely their most recent release Fate/Extella: The Umbral Star. It’s crazy how similar both games are, it’s just that Fate/Extella has far superior animations, non-empty looking backgrounds and a solidly enticing art-style. Then again, Marvelous does have a tendency of recycling the core of their games, which is usually just a less (or more) boobified version of Senran Kagura. But I digress.

The game features a total of eight playable characters. There’s the four main playable characters from the RWBY series and then the four wannabe heroes from Team JNPR. The JNPR DLC will offer gamers four additional characters to play, each with their own unique weapons, including Jaune, Nora, Ren, and Pyrrha.

The combat is serviceable for all eight characters, but as I mentioned… it’s a far cry from a game like Fate/Extella, which just launched alongside RWBY: Grimm Eclipse. The latter is actually a port of the indie PC hit that originally went through the Steam Greenlight process and then launched on Steam back in the summer of 2016. The JNPR DLC became available just a few months ago back in October. The game is available for $19.99.

You can pick the game up from the PlayStation Store as a digital download. If it’s not available in your region you may have to wait until after 5PM EST before it unlocks.
