Folks who played games with friends or sibling back in the day will remember that quite a bit of titles back then had some form of local multiplayer containing various game modes to mess around with. Well, Playtonic Games and Team17 showcased the multiplayer in a new video trailer for Yooka-Laylee centering around “Multiplayer Multiplatform” fun.

The bright and colorful throwback game to the 1990’s PS1 and N64 era of 3D platforming, better known as Yooka-Laylee, will hit retail stores and the digital scene on April 11th, and will be for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.

One feature the devs seem to be proud of is Yooka-Laylee’s local or split-screen multiplayer, which contains different modes for folks to indulge in with others. This even includes local multiplayer for the main story.

Rextro’s Arcade

The game is said by the devs to feature eight unique multiplayer arcade games which can be found in dated Dino Rextro’s Arcade. Players are able to explore all of the games solo in a bid for high score on the leaderboards, or they can engage in local couch co-op that allows up to four players to battle for living room supremacy.

Some of the things mentioned in the “exciting” realm of Rextro’s Arcade include Glaciators brawler arena, Kartos Karting, Blag the Flag, Gun-let Run, Jobstacle Course and Hurdle Hijinx — among other modes.

Single Player and Multiplayer

Yooka-Laylee offers a second player the opportunity to join in the main adventure. The second player will be able to grab quills and collect and store butterflies for when Yooka and Laylee are in need of health or energy. The second player can even stop some traps to help player-1 traverse around tricky obstacles.

Lastly, the devs revealed a secret that upon collecting special play coins within Yooka-Laylee’s extensive single player campaign an arcade room filled with cabinets will reveal a mysterious book. If you are looking forward to getting the game and finding the hidden secret, Yooka-Laylee is set to drop on April 11th.
