Xaviant’s The Culling was originally scheduled to launch into the Xbox One’s Game Preview program when it wrapped up or neared the wrapping up of development while in Steam’s Early Access program. Well, after a year of being in an alpha state on Steam, Xaviant announced that The Culling has finally graduated into beta and the steps towarde entering into the Game Preview program for the Xbox One are underway.
In a recent post over on the official website, the developers state that they have plans on releasing The Culling onto the Xbox One at some point in the early first half of 2017. So Xbox gamers can likely look forward to the arena-style survival game coming to the console sometime by spring.
They mention in the post about the most recent update from alpha to beta that…
“[…] this build is not an exit from Early Access. Instead, it represents our transition from Alpha to Beta. This is an exciting milestone that ushers in a new era of The Culling.”
“[…] Speaking of the future… we’re also happy to announce that we’ll be bringing The Culling to Xbox One Game Preview Program in the first half of 2017!”
In addition to going from alpha to beta, they also released a brand new map for The Culling. They brought the servers down on Wednesday, January 18th, in order to update the game and add in the new content. You can grab a look at it for yourself in the trailer below.
The trailer starts by introducing gamers to Cull County Correctional. There’s an almost cough-and-you-missed-it PA telling inmates not to drop the soap. Nice.
The trailer quickly covers some of the new outfits, some of which are high-tech while others are pretty low-brow. They give a quick look at the new weapons, including a range of spears such as the yari, pitchfork and pike.
New events, skins and XP bonuses have been added to The Culling in the most recent update. You can pick up a digital copy of the game in Early Access as it continues to move through the development phase, or wait for it to launch later on in 2017 for the Xbox One via the Game Preview program.
