Battlecrew Space Pirates, Side-Scrolling Multiplayer Shooter Enters Early Access

Dontnod Eleven’s Battlecrew Space Pirates has officially entered into Early Access over on Steam. The game is available for $9.99, but during the first week of being on sale you can get it for 30% off for only $6.99.

The title is an online PvP multiplayer game where teams battle it out in 3D arenas on a 2D, side-scrolling plane. The title sees two teams of four battling it out across various maps. There are currently four classes to choose from and two different game modes, including a mode called Gold Rush where you battle and race to collect as much gold as possible before time runs out, and the standard Team Deathmatch mode where the team with the superior skills will come out as the victor.

Oskar Guilbert, the CEO of Dontnod Entertainment commented about the new indie side-scroller from the company, stating in the press release…

“It is great to see the indie development team at DONTNOD ELEVEN taking their first step towards a bigger audience and we are excited to see the progress and how player feedback shapes BATTLECREW Space Pirates in the coming months in Early Access.”

Following the launch into Early Access they plan on spending anywhere between two and six months in the development phase as they implement more heroes, more maps and more modes. You can see what the gameplay is like with the video below.

It reminds me a lot of Nexon’s upcoming Hyper Universe, just less colorful and with less memorable heroes.

One of the heroes appears to be a bit of a rip on Tracer from Overwatch, being able to teleport and move fast.

I’m not big on the whole hero shooter cash-ins, but at least it’s a side-scroller instead of the typical isometric MOBA setup.

You can check the game out now, if you’re interested, over on the Steam store page.
