Sobaka has a new game in the works called Redeemer. The title is being published by Gambitious Digital Entertainment. The title sees players in the role of an acquisition and security specialist named Vasily, who works for a large arms industry. However, after being betrayed, Vasily decides to take leave from his dangerous line of work and head to the hills for a monastery.

This might sound a lot like the last half of Pen-Ek Ratanaruang’s 2011 thriller Headshot, or IO Interactive’s Hitman 2: Silent Assassin, but there’s no rest for the vengeful. The arms corporation decides to track down Vasily and finish off what they couldn’t, 20 years later. This forces the elite killer out of retirement as he battles against the forces of his former employer. Sound familiar?

Players take on the role of Vasily in the game Redeemer, which combines physics-based combat, brutal hand-to-hand take downs, along with high-impact gunfights to round out the experience. The description alone sounds like a cool bad-action movie from the 1980s or 1990s, but you can get an actual glimpse of the gameplay with the trailer below.

When I read the description the first thing that came to mind was that this was going to be one of those hard-hitting top-down shooters with some visceral combat. Once the half-way point in the trailer hit and they actually showed the combat… I was not disappointed.

The game could very well be a movie, and has all the makings of becoming a 2017 sleeper hit.

The added bonus of being able to grab guys and smash them into the environment, use objects to break them over enemies, and essentially become a one-man wrecking crew makes Redeemer look legit.

There’s a part of it that seems to remind me of John Wick meets Diablo meets Hitman meets God of War.

I’m freaking sold.

But I wasn’t the only one impressed. The general reactions and feedback for the game on the YouTube trailer are all generally positive.
