Rise of the Elders Cthulhu: Lovecraftian RPG Launches Kickstarter Campaign

Developers Strange Matter has recently launched a new Kickstarter Campaign to help fund their strategy RPG, based on H.P Lovecraft’s Cthulhu mythos. Rise Of The Elders will challenge your team management skills as your unit dives into the mouth of madness.

Rise Of The Elders: Cthulhu will have you set up a base of operations and send your investigators around the world to stop cultists from summoning strange and deadly monsters that want to destroy the planet, while also battling the heavy burden of their mental state and psychosis.

The developers say that Rise Of The Elders is a mix of X-com meets Eldritch Horror and The Call of Cthulhu. The major difference though is that Rise Of The Elders plays out like a tabletop board game. Instead of 2D sprites or 3D characters, instead, each investigator is a small picture token that travels and fights on the world map. Check out the teaser trailer for the story linked down below.

Rise Of The Elders: Cthulhu will also feature a random “Disorder” system, where based on the missions you encounter and the monsters you fight, your investigator could develop a mental Disorder that affects them in different ways. The developers say that each character can obtain up to five different mental disorders if they collect a sixth, they will more than likely die from having their mind ripped apart, which triggers perma-death.

The objective of the game is to deal with the strange events around the world without letting it destroy the minds of your investigators. You will need to make new contacts, build up your base, and give your team mental therapy to help them to cope with the evils they see out on the field. The developers released a Kickstarter and Steam Greenlight trailer to talk about the game and a few of the gameplay mechanics in the below video.

Rise Of The Elders: Cthulhu is scheduled for an October 2017 release fate for Mobile devices and PC. If you would like to support the developers and their project you can head on over to their Kickstarter page to learn more. If you would like to see Rise Of The Elders: Cthulhu come to Steam Greenlight, make sure to visit the page and cast your vote.
