Spike Chunsoft is bringing back Human Interactive’s long-running and beloved fighting/wrestling series, Fire Pro Wrestling. The new game is called Fire Pro Wrestling World and is in development for PC and PS4.
Niche Gamer picked up news about the new Japanese wrestling title, which is scheduled to release during the second quarter of 2017 later this year. This means you can likely expect to see it on Steam and the PlayStation Network sometime during this summer.
To give gamers a small taste of what’s to come, they released a new teaser trailer just under a minute long featuring some of the gameplay and wrestling for the hand-animated title. You can check it out below.
They’re still using the Flash-style animation technique from the older games, which was a real breakthrough back in the early 1990s. Super Fire Pro Wrestling X Premium is still one of my all-time favorite wrestling games just because of how many characters it had, the amount of moves you could use, and the extremely deep customization.
Creating characters was a blast and experimenting with different fighting and wrestling styles was unheard of back during that time. That’s not to mention that they featured a lot of great fighters from the early days of the UFC, Pride, K1, King of Pancrase, NJPW, WWF and WCW. Whether you were an MMA fan from the old-school or a pro-wrestling aficionado, Fire Pro Wrestling games were a few of the only games out there that allowed players to experience a cross-over where you could have Ken Shamrock go up against Hulk Hogan, or pit Rickson Gracie against The Undertaker, Randy Savage against Bas Rutten, or see Maurice Smith go head-to-head against Sting. It was awesome.
We don’t have an exact release date or price for Fire Pro Wrestling World, but I imagine it’ll be arriving soon. I’m looking forward to the deathmatches, explosive in-ring action, and the deep wrestling mechanics. And best of all… it’s coming to Steam!
