Reservoir Dogs: Bloody Days Set To Arrive on Steam, Xbox One

Big Star Games announced that a top-down shooter based on Quentin Tarantino’s Reservoir Dogs from 1992 called Reservoir Dogs: Bloody Days is due for release this spring on Steam for PC. The PC release will be followed up with a release on Xbox One.

Big Star partnered with Lionsgate to work on the game, and it’s essentially Postal wrapped up in a Reservoir Dogs skin.

They unveiled a 25 second teaser trailer showcasing barely anything of the gameplay but just enough to give gamers an idea of what it’s about. You can check it out below.

The game sees players taking on the roles of Mr. Blonde, Mr. Blue, Mr. Brown, Mr. Orange, Mr. Pink and Mr. White. Much like the movie, players will attempt to rob places and shoot their way out to make a getaway.

In the press release, Liam Patton, CEO at Big Star Games commented on what they’re aiming to do with the title, saying…

“As huge fans of Reservoir Dogs, we’re very focused on creating a highly addictive experience that stays true to the tense, dramatic vibe of this unforgettable movie,”

“By taking control of different characters for overlapping bursts of time, players must utilize the strengths of each squad member to carry out the game’s missions, with every move and shot creating a butterfly effect on the overall outcome.”

Despite Patton’s enthusiasm for the game, the response on YouTube hasn’t been pretty.

Browsing through the comments tells the whole story, but the highest voted comment basically covers the gist of why the trailer has been downvoted as much as it has.

Big Star really blew an opportunity to capitalize on marketing here. They should have changed all the “Misters” to “Missus” and they could have cashed in on marketing “misogyny” points, like Paul Feig and the 2016 Ghostbusters release.

Instead, they’ll just have to suck it up and deal with the fact that people don’t like the new game because they think it looks like a cheap cash-in.

Oddly enough, the original Reservoir Dogs from Eidos for the PS2 was a really solid, fun game. I had a ton of fun playing that title and it was highly replayable even though it was centered around just one heist. What made it so good was the fact that you didn’t have to kill everyone. It used an intimidation system not unlike the one featured in Payday 2, where you could use crowd control to force antagonists to lay down their arms. Not many games since then have added a feature like that, despite it being 11 years old.

Even still, this newest Reservoir Dogs: Bloody Days will feature various robberies to complete, shootouts with cops, and the ability to control each of the heisters for “overlapping bursts of time”.

The game is only going to be available on PC and Xbox One as part of the 25th anniversary for the film.
