Dawn Of War 3 Multiplayer Videos Detail New RTS Features, Customization

Relic Entertainment released two new videos for the multiplayer component of Dawn of War III, featuring the customization features, the fog of war, and the hero characters.

The first video covers a scripted collage of multiplayer battles, covering the skirmish against the AI and the cooperative PvP modes where teams face off against each other on various maps. You can check out the first video below.

A lot of people downvoted the video because of the cringe-worthy acting and the obvious kayfabe scenarios setup to portray the multiplayer gameplay as “authentic”. They almost did better just showing the clips and leaving the actors’ voices by the wayside.

Anyway, the second video garnered a far more positive reaction from the community, mainly because it’s just a basic tutorial explaining how to utilize the multiplayer features and what sort of modes you can expect to play. You can check it out below.

You can choose between the three warring factions, and pick various heroes to command on the battlefield, not unlike Creative Assembly’s Total War: Warhammer from last year.

You can level up your heroes to unlock new skins for your elite heroes. You can also customize the units using the palette editor.

Before heading into battle, you can equip Doctrines. The Doctrines allow you to earn or utilize buffs for your heroes and your units.

The game supports between 1-vs-1, 2-vs-2 and 3-vs-3 modes. The skirmish modes will require players to have to take out the opponent’s towers before their power core can be destroyed. It’s very similar to the typical MOBA setup, but you’ll first need to capture and gather resources to build up your bases and unit strength.

There appears to be enough of a meta-game there to give players enough to return to for the multiplayer. Of course, the longevity of said multiplayer will depend on whether or not microtransactions interfere with said meta-game. We’ll have to wait to see how Sega and Relic handle DLC for the online modes.

Dawn of War III is due for release on PC starting April 27th.
