Badland Games and Dreadlocks announced that a free demo for the cyberpunk, side-scrolling action-stealth game, Dex, is currently available to download for the Xbox One and the PlayStation 4.
They also revealed that they’re giving away free game codes for Dex for the full version of the game for those who enter in the necessary info over on the official giveaway page.
The demo covers some short segments from the full version centering around certain story elements. They released a trailer to give gamers a heads-up as to what to expect from the demo.
Now let’s be honest: this isn’t really an eighth-gen game. But I don’t think Dreadlocks – when they first Kickstarted the title – were trying to make an eighth-gen game, they were trying to make a really good, cyberpunk thriller with stealth elements, solid beat-’em-up action with some decent puzzle solving and story elements tying it all together.
Dex was originally Kickstarted back in 2013 and eventually made its way to Steam. After some more platform work and improvements, they eventually managed to get the game on the Xbox One and PS4.
The core concept is more of a throwback to the kind of action-oriented side-scrollers we used to get many years ago, like Generations Lost, Blackthorne and Out of this World. There are a lot of Metroidvania type games out there, but very few story-oriented titles with grounded sci-fi themes.
The Unity-powered game originally launched back in the summer for the Xbox One and PS4, and it just recently arrived for the PlayStation Vita in December.
The demo is a fine way to remind gamers that Dex actually exists. If you’re into games like Shadowrun or Dark Matter or The Fall, you might like Dex.
The full game and the demo are both currently available right now for PC, PS4 and Xbox One.
