My Friend Pedro Is The 2.5D Action Game John Woo Fans Have Been Waiting For

My Friend Pedro: Blood Bullets Bananas has been in development for a while now. Developers DeadToast Entertainment began chronicling their 2.5D action game back in late 2015, and they’ve been making progress leading up toward a rough playable version of the game, which seems to be on target for having all of its gameplay elements finished soon enough.

My Friend Pedro is a tongue-in-cheek side-scrolling action game centered around gunplay acrobatics. Every bullet has a destination, just like the John Woo maxim, but this time around you get to do all sorts of wacky and crazy-cool moves that puts The Matrix to shame. You can check out an alpha trailer for the game below.

My Friend Pedro: Blood Bullets Bananas – Pre-Alpha – Indie DB

My Friend Pedro is running on the Unity 3D game engine. As the video showcases, the gunplay is all physics-based, with ragdolls for the enemies, mouse-pointer targeting, and even physics-based melee attacks. But that’s just the start.

The game was originally based on a Flash animation title, but DeadToast began evolving it, upgrading it, enhancing it, making it bigger, better, flashier and more badass than the 1988 versin of Sylvester Stallone.

Their most recent alpha trailer showcases an improved version of the main character and some of the fancier acrobatic moves they’ve added to the game since the original trailer debut back in 2015. You can check it out below.

Even then, the trailer above doesn’t really capture what they’ve now achieved with the game, such as corkscrew platform devices that you can use to execute dual kills, as well as double-wall jumping so you can perform complex off-the-wall kill shots (literally), along with bounce pads so you can setup long range kills by quickly closing the distance using the spring platforms. There are also features like a propeller hat that Pedro can use, allowing him to slowly drift down and pick off enemies while descending vertically.

The game truly is a unique looking beast that puts most newer shooting games to shame. We haven’t had a game like this since Max Payne 3, and that was from way back in 2012. And let’s face it, big, drunk Max was not getting his fat behind up in the air to do a spinning plancha with an Uzi in each hand.

There’s no ETA on a release date but you can keep track of the game and sign-up for a newsletter to get the latest updates made for My Friend Pedro: Blood Bullets Bananas by visiting the official website, or you can check out the developer logs over on the IndieDB page.
