Some developers at least know how to mix things up by dabbling in some interesting new story concepts, such as Flying Turtle Software with their recently released platformer, A Walk In The Dark. The game is currently available on Xbox One and PC.
The title sees players in the role of an agile cat who goes out in search of its best friend named Arielle. The poor girl ends up getting captured by an ancient evil during one of their strolls through the park, forcing the cat named Bast to go out in search of Arielle and save her from the evil.
You can check out the game’s launch trailer below to see what the 2D platformer looks like action on Xbox and PC.
The game takes cues from the visual art-styling of Playdead Games’ Limbo, with shadow silhouettes in the foreground and washed out hues used throughout the parallax backgrounds.
The actual gameplay is reminiscent to that of a side-scrolling endless runner, putting gamers in position as a cat on a mission, dodging porcupines, razor sharp buzzsaws, and other obstacles preventing Bast from getting to Arielle.
Additionally, the game will also let you take control of Arielle, who has a slightly different set of levels than her feline companion. Instead of running fast and timing her jumps, Arielle has the ability to alter gravity, falling and sticking to surfaces as she attempts to navigate through hazardous environments.
I didn’t think that you would be able to play as Arielle, but it’s cool they decided to diversify the gameplay by adding that option in there. It should make for some entertaining gaming sessions.
The puzzle-style platforming likely won’t be for everyone, but A Walk In The Dark is an old-school style platformer where reflexes and timing are key.
You can grab a digital copy of the game right now from the Windows 10 store or from the Xbox Store.
