Dreadnought Open Beta Is Free-to-Play On PC; PS4 Beta Sign-Ups Available

Fancy taking a dreadnought class carrier into space or into the atmosphere and shooting the living crap out of other dreadnought class carriers? Well, you can try your hand at the PC version of the game Dreadnought, which has just recently entered into a soft launch open-beta.

Dreadnought has been in development for quite some time, but it wasn’t until recently that the developers finally made headway and finishing the game up for a final release. The game was originally announced back in 2014, during those tumultuous days when #GamerGate was big stuff. Late last year Yager announced that they would moving forward with a PS4 release of the game as well.

Just recently they managed to move the Unreal Engine 4-powered game out of closed beta testing and finalize it for the open beta launch. This comes with the news that the game has also received its largest map yet, set in space above one of Saturn’s moons.

You can check out the new map thanks to the new trailer, which focuses some of the progress they’ve made on Dreadnought over the past few years.

The trailer gives you a look at the sort of close, mid and long range combat present in Dreadnought.

One of the tricks of the trade is using smaller ships to chip away at the larger ships, acting like flies hanging around the tail of a horse.

The There’s a check and balance in terms of weapons, defenses, offensive strategies and teamwork that can be employed in the deathmatch rounds.

It’s not as fast-paced as typical space fighters given the size of the dreadnought class ships, but it’s certainly a lot faster than typical 4X strategy games or other titles where you rely on capital ships to command the battlefield.

If you’re interested in playing through Dreadnought and partaking in the open beta, you can do so by visiting the official website. Also stay tuned in for news regarding the launch of the PS4 beta as well.
