Ahead of its launch on Xbox One and PS4 sometime later in the year, Borealys Games’ Mages of Mystralia has currently become available for Steam gamers playing on PC.

The game sees players in the role of a mage who must overcome evil using a series of customizable magic.

Players will use Zia the mage to unlock new powers and develop new spells using a collection of runes.

The magic creation system has similar results to that of Rudra, where you could create your own magic based on a syntax algorithm, which allowed players to create some really cool magic spells that you could outfit your characters with.

The main difference is that in Mages of Mystralia you use the rune system to create various attacks, including ice projectiles, firebombs, and various status effects and buffs. The game is very similar to other isometric action-RPGs, and you can get a look at it in action with the trailer below.

They give a brief example of how you can use various behavior modifiers, augmentations, and triggers to create various spells.

The crafting system also works for solving some of the puzzles in the game as well. The system allows players to craft what’s necessary to take on the various challenges present throughout the game.

Beyond the magic system, there’s also a soundtrack put together by Shota Nakama with music performed by the SoundRec Boston Orchestra. The user reviews also note that there are lots of different areas to explore in the game, and the exploration and adventuring is very similar to that of old Legend of Zelda games.

The majority of the reviews from users are fairly positive, praising the game’s graphics, gameplay mechanics and the magic system, where various gamers have claimed that they’ve managed to create thousand of spell possibilities.

The game is also set to arrive on the PS4 and Xbox One later on this year after it managed to surpass its Kickstarter goals and have the home consoles added to the list of platforms that it’ll be available on.
