Xbox One and PC gamers will be able to get their hands on Tokyo 42 starting May 31st. Xbox owners get an extra bonus by being able to pre-order and pre-download the game early by visiting the Xbox Store.
The game is currently carrying a $19.99 price tag, and will also launch digitally on Steam for PC at the end of the month. PlayStation 4 owners will be able to get their hands on the title starting mid-July.
In addition to announcing the release date, two new trailers also popped up, featuring more of the Syndicate and GTA inspired gameplay that Darbatron put together. You can check them out below.
Much like the original GTA or Hotline Miami, one shot and you’re toast. The object is to use the environment to your advantage, dodging and running and attempting to avoid being blasted down while carrying out your mission.
The game has a particularly vibrant look, with the use of dye-splashed colors and a Japanese motif to match the eponymous Tokyo.
The game seems like it could be a real fun treat for gamers looking for a unique mix of strategy, action, and visual stimulation.
So many other games these days rely on the typical 8-bit sprite theme that it’s nice to see a game take itself in a completely different direction by using a sort of diorama design for the architecture and levels.
One of the most impressive things about Tokyo 42 is that the AI is no pushover. As you can see in the video above that the cops run, dodge, take cover and use flanking. They play almost as aggressive and dynamic as another player would, which is great!
It’s a shame the AI in most other games aren’t this aggressive and dynamic, especially in games like Agents of Mayhem, which has some of the most boring AI opponents I’ve seen in a game to date.
You can look for Tokyo 42 to drop on May 31st for the PC and Xbox One first, and then later on in mid-July for the PS4. The game will be available for $19.99 and you can learn more by visiting the Steam store page.
