Unformed, Lovecraftian Chinese Folklore Action Game Launches This Summer

Blackfire Games has a really cool new title on the way due for release this summer called Unformed. The game is inspired by old Chinese folklore and fused with the H.P. Lovecraft mythos, giving gamers a truly unique and disturbing tale about a character chasing the whims of immortality.

The developers recently announced that Unformed will not only be releasing this summer on PC, but you’ll also be able to pick up a digital copy of the side-scrolling action game on home consoles later into 2017.

The title is a platforming, side-scrolling, hack-and-slash game. You’ll face off against various monsters and oddities familiar to both Chinese folklore and Lovecraftian fiction. You can get a rough idea of what the gameplay is like with the trailer below.

Blackfire Games has plans on taking their title to Kickstarter where they’ll attempt to gather up enough funds starting May 24th in order to finish the development of Unformed and get it released on PC, Xbox One and PS4.

The story revolves around an immortality specialist who must use their wits and skills to subdue the rising force of an old god after cultists and kings ended up raising the ancient one through their warring and recklessness to attain immortality.

It reminds me a little bit of the game Death’s Gambit.

After initially releasing on PC Blackfire has plans on getting the game published on PlayStation Vita and the Nintendo 3DS. Thereafter they plan on releasing the game on the Nintendo Switch as well.

It’s tough to get a gauge as to how much gameplay or replayability something like Unformed could contain given that the only video available is from a year ago, and the screenshots show some obvious upgrades since then but we don’t really get to see too much on display.

Essentially we’ll have to wait until the Kickstarter goes live and then we’ll likely have a better idea of how far along they are with the title and what the final state will look like when it releases on PC this summer.
