Team17 announced that the new Forts Mode update has gone live on PC for Worms W.M.D. The update contains brand new maps and features for players to mess around with in the tactical, turn-based deathmatch game. They also announced that the update will be arriving for free on the Xbox One and PS4… soon.
The objective of the mod is to infiltrate your opponent’s fort. You must defend your fort while attacking the enemy fort. This mode can be played across six new maps, including the Castle Hassle, Donkey Dig, Reactor, Haunted, Pink Peril and Rocket 6.
Each of the maps will require their own strategies and teamwork in order to thwart the efforts of your opponents. They give you a brief look at the new forts with the update trailer below (however, at the time of writing the article the video was unavailable. Hopefully it’s working now.)

In addition to the new maps and the new Fort Mode, Team17 also added a new weapon that can be crafted, the Magnetized Drone. They don’t specifically say what it does or how it’s used, but it sounds like it could be rather deadly.
The update also includes a couple of tweaks and bug fixes as well, further optimizing the gameplay and improving compatibility.
Worms W.M.D. had originally launched back in the middle of 2016. It probably seems like a complete surprise that Team17 would go out of their way to include brand new maps and features for a game that’s almost a year old, but… lo and behold they’re committed to the cause. And not only that, but it’s a free update, too. Capcom fans could only wish and beg for such treatment.
If you already own a copy of Worms W.M.D., you can access the free update starting today on PC, Mac and Linux platforms. The free Forts update will be available on the Xbox One and PS4… soon.
