Yu Suzuki Talks Shenmue 3 Story In New Developer Diary

Is Shenmue a favorite of yours? If so, Yu Suzuki talks inspiration for the upcoming third implementation of Shenmue and what the third story to the latest entry in the series will feature. This development update comes courtesy of Ys Net’s developer dairy.

In case  you don’t know, Shenmue 3 is currently in development for PC and PS4. The game will continue the story of the previous title that released many years ago. This information comes from both Gematsu and shenmue.link.

In addition to the above, and according to the latter, we find that the devs want to share with fans and gamers alike a part of Shenmue 3’s story. This can be seen below in a notice on the Shenmue website:

“Greetings Everyone,

The intrigue, adventure and drama of the Shenmue story is a hallmark of the series which has ignited our imaginations and burns with anticipation in our hearts. In this month’s update, Yu-san offers a short discourse on plot structurization, thematic touchstones and story pacing. So, take your seats, class is about to start!”

Below, the interview covers what Suzuki thinks is important in video games and what similar and different traits movies and games have in common. The video runs close to six minutes, and clocks in at five minutes and 54 seconds.

I’m not sure how this game will turn out, but more importantly how fans will react to Shenmue 3… that is, when (or if) it finally sees the light of day. I hope the devs bring thought and passion to the game and the mechanics that make the whole thing tick. If not, Shenmue 3 could feel like a husk of a game riding on past glory, hype and fan anticipation.

Something that is worth pointing out is that the Sword of the Seven Stars will make an appearance when the game becomes available for players to consume — as seen at 5:20.

Another dev diary or special event is set to release sometime next month for those who are curious. For more information regarding Shenume 3 you can head on over to shenmue.link.
