Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy Only 1440p At 30fps On PS4 Pro

Crash Bandicoot N. Trilogy only runs at 1440p at 30fps on the PlayStation Pro. This was revealed during an interview that Hip Hop Gamer had with Vicarious Visions in a video that was recently posted up on his channel.

Game Transfers caught wind of the mention during the video at the 2:25 mark where game director Dan Tanguay from Vicarious Visions revealed…

”So [Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy] is enhanced for the PS4 Pro. It’s actually not true 4K, it’s [2560 x 1440p] running at 30 frames per second […]”

Hip Hop Gamer tried to brush it off by saying that the game looked good regardless, and that “it doesn’t matter”.

However, the bigger story here is that the PS4 Pro doesn’t seem to be capable of running a game designed specifically for PlayStation hardware at the expected 4K render rate. Worse yet is that some games at least scaled up to 1800p, just shy of the native 4K mark, and then upscaled from there. Mass Effect: Andromeda and Killing Floor 2 were both games that ran at 1800p on the PS4 Pro at 30fps. Other games like The Last of Us: Remastered offered players options in terms of how they were able to render the output, but in this case you’re going to be stuck with Crash running at 1440p at only 30fps.

It’s an extremely meager spec for the PS4 Pro, especially since Sony has been billing it as a 4K console. When it’s barely running games above the standard PS4 resolution and at the exact same frame-rate, it definitely makes you wonder if the extra $150 is worth it?

Microsoft could very easily trounce the PS4 Pro with the release of the Xbox Scorpio, but they’re going to need a lot more exclusive software to make it worthwhile. Hardware wise the Scorpio is at least a true 4K machine under the hood, more-so than Sony’s machine.

You can look for the remake of Crash Bandicoot games via the N Sane Trilogy from Vicarious Visions and Activision to launch on June 30th at the end of the month for the PS4 and PS4 Pro.
