The rumors were true, there is indeed a new Metroid game for the Nintendo Switch that will be available for folks to indulge in… for whenever a release date rolls around. The announcement of Metroid Prime 4 was made during Nintendo’s E3 2017 presentation spotlight and comes in as a 43 second long teaser video trailer.
Update: Nintendo’s Bill Trinen had noted in an interview that instead of Retro Studios developing the new Metroid game the title is being developed by Metroid‘s longtime series producer Kensuke Tanabe, which Tanabe will be involved with the project.
I should note that there is no release date or tentative date like “coming 2018” or something, the trailer reads “Now in development for Nintendo Switch”. Before dabbling into the ramble fest, you can watch the new teaser trailer below courtesy of Nintendo UK.
Back on May 8th, we caught wind from publication site GameRant that a new Metroid game was in development for the Nintendo Switch, which came in as a rumor. We advised readers to take everything with a grain of salt given that there was very little evidence pointing to a new Metroid game coming to fruition, but lo and behold the rumor was true.
The whole rumor regarding a new Metroid game came to light when composer Alexander Brandon posted on his Facebook page that he was working on a “secret project” with Retro Studios. Folks who followed Brandon would know that he is a huge fan of Metroid, and to see said composer working with Retro Studios (the ones behind the Metroid Prime games) only meant that something big was cooking up. Adding to the whole Metroid craze came a post by Brandon that reads as followed:
“I’m currently working with Retro Studios here in Austin. As much as I’d like to say more (except the work is incredibly exciting and the team is awesome), I can’t.”
With the new trailer and all of the above said, are you disappointed or excited that Nintendo has a new Metroid game — Metroid Prime 4 to be specific — currently in development?
