Valiant Entertainment and Ninja Theory announced that they have collaborated together for a comic book based on Hellblade. The new digital comic short will take a dive into the world that surrounds Senua, and it’s aptly named Hellblade: Senua’s Song.
Ninja Theory co-founder and chief creative director Tameem Antoniades explained why they teamed up with Valient and what people can expect, saying in the press release…
“Since Valiant and Ninja Theory’s paths first crossed, we realized that we are two creative organizations with very similar outlooks. We share a dedication to quality, creativity and giving our fans what they want. It has been fantastic to work with the talented team at Valiant to bring Hellblade: Senua’s Song to life in such a beautiful way,”
Antoniades is also working as a co-writer on the comic book, so he’s able to dip his toes into that field as well.
According to Valiant CEO and CCO Dinesh Shamdasani, those working at the company were fans of Ninja Theory’s work, dating back to Enslaved: Odyssey to the West and Heavenly Sword.
Shamdasani stated that it was the layered experience of Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice that led them to collaborate with Ninja Theory on the upcoming comic book, saying…
“Not only is the experience deeply compelling, but, most importantly, Senua is a complex and captivating lead character whose journey is heartbreaking, inspirational and revelatory all at once. We’re all fans and admirers of Ninja Theory here, and they share a creative POV with Valiant that is grounded in strong storytelling and deep characterization. We couldn’t be happier to contribute to Hellblade’s enthralling mythology in some small way, and we look forward to future collaborations.”
Valiant Entertainment’s most recent efforts centered around X-O Manowar #1. Valiant is also expected to to work with Sony to have Bloodshot and Harbinger to release in theaters next year in 2018.
For those who pre-order Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice they will receive the comic book free as part of the purchase. The game is due for release on August 8th later this year for PC and PS4, and it will be available digitally via PSN, Steam and GOG.com for $29.99.
A lot of gamers worry that the title may end up being more of a cinematic movie than an actual game, and there are mounting worries that gameplay will be rather thin based on what has been showcased from the developer diaries.
