2K Games and WWE named the “King Slayer” Seth Rollins as the cover athlete for this year’s
outing of WWE 2K18. The game features the man who defeated Triple H at this past year’s Wrestlemania, even though he’s been booked pretty uneven outside of his feud with Triple H.
The announcement came in a two-part promotional package, including a near two minute trailer introducing Seth Rollins as the cover athlete, which you can check out below.
The live-action trailer is pretty cool, featuring a number of classic items from past superstars being ravaged and destroyed in cinematic fashion. The Nature Boy Ric Flair’s rob is set ablaze, along with the Undertaker’s coffin. Sting’s bat is used to destroy a case with Mankind’s mask in it, and fire melts the chainmail skull mask of the King of Kings, Triple H.
The history of the previous legends goes up in a ball of flames, as the mantra “Be Like No One” flashes across the screen as Rollins unmasks himself.
It’s such a badass trailer for WWE 2K18, but why is it a heel trailer? This would have been a perfect trailer had Rollins been booked as a conniving, intelligent, architect of destruction on Raw, but he’s not. He’s booked as a generic guy who beat Triple H and has a cool move-set that always damages his knee in kayfabe.
I get the feeling the 2K guys and gals in the marketing department seem to have a better idea of Rollins’ personality and direction for his booking than Vince and the rest of the WWE creative team.
The video ends by revealing that WWe 2K18 is due for release on October 17th, 2017 for home consoles.
The second video sees Rollins in the ring, live in the ring on Raw, talking about his opportunity and privilege to grace the cover for WWE 2K18. You can check out the video below.
The promo is kayfabe but over on the WWE website they reveal that the game will come in three editions, including Standard Edition, Deluxe Edition and Collector’s Edition. The upcoming game will feature new game modes not present in previous outings, along with a lot of other upgrades, improvements and new additions to the game.
The Deluxe Edition comes with access to the season pass, along with pre-order bonus digital content, and additional bonus digital content. The Collector’s Edition features special packaging, a physical collectible, the season pass, pre-order bonus content, and the additional digital content. Also, for those who pre-order or purchase the Deluxe or Collector’s Editions will gain access to WWE 2K18 four days earlier than everyone else, starting October 13th, 2017.
