City Shrouded In Shadow Sees Players Escaping From Legendary Kaiju

Bandai Namco and Granzella’s upcoming City Shrouded In Shadow is a kaiju game for the PlayStation 4. Actually, scratch that; it’s a game about running from kaiju in Japan.

Players take on the role of civilians attempting to escape from a city shrouded in the shadow of colossus.

A four minute gameplay trailer was released for the upcoming title, sporting some fancy cinematics, and a whole bunch of familiar kaiju and mechs, ranging from Ultraman to Evangelion, and from Gidorah to Godzilla. You can check out the trailer below courtesy of Game One.

Players will attempt to save other civilians, make life or death decisions in order to escape the city. There are even a few segments featuring vehicular gameplay, where players must escape from the city on motorcycles or cars. Again, it depends on the decisions you make, where you go, who you meet up with and how you interact with them.

The tagline for the game is “This is not the story of some hero, this is your story”.

It’s definitely an interesting take on the traditional kaiju games where oftentimes players are either the kaiju or the forces sent out to stop them, like in the Godzilla games, King of Monsters or the Earth Defense Force titles.

City Shrouded in Shadow is due out for release on October 19th, 2017 for the PlayStation 4.

A lot of people are totally excited about the concept of this game, seeing Evangelion duke it out with Patlabors and Ultraman and Gamera. It’s kind of a crossover dream come true.

It reminds me a lot of Disaster: Day of Crisis and Disaster Report 4 Plus. The only difference is that you’re not just trying to escape from natural disasters this time around, you’re trying not to get stepped on by your favorite heroes who are fighting it out in the middle of Tokyo.

It’s a shame the game is only coming out in Japan but it looks like it could be a pretty cool title that diverges from the regular action-adventure game.
