The PlayStation 4 exclusive Gran Turismo Sport has been given its official release date, which is set for October 17th, 2017. The news about the release date was posted up over on the official PlayStation Blog, and was accompanied by a new gameplay trailer.
The trailer is only half a minute long, featuring a very quick glimpse at the cockpit view of a car, along with the photo mode showcasing how gorgeous the vehicles look in stationary environments for picture-taking purposes. You can see the trailer in action below.
The trailer also hints at the VR mode, which will be available for those with PlayStation VR headsets. The mode will feature all of the cars from the roster, which Sony and Polyphony plan on unveiling leading up to the October release. The VR races will only be one-on-one, though. Additionally, the mode will only feature a third of the race tracks from the game. So there’s a lot they had to take out in order to give gamers the VR mode on the PS4.
Additionally, they also revealed a limited edition as well, which features a GT Sport starter pack containing eight cars, $1 million in in-game credits, a livery sticker pack, 30 GT Sport avatars, a chrome racing helmet for the driver profile and a limited edition steelbook packaging. The limited edition will be available for $69.99.
And last but not least is the theme song trailer, which you can check out below.
The theme music trailer is composed by John Paesano. The trailer itself is actually the best thatGran Turismo Sport
Polyphony has always done a fantastic job with natural lighting on the cars, and it really shines through in the intro trailer here. The major problem is when you start looking at some of the other elements missing, such as the multi-pass dynamic shadows in the environment and the lack of soft shadows outside of the extreme close-ups in some instances, which betrays the game’s realism.
In real-time action, I haven’t been that impressed with Gran Turismo Sport, but there’s still time to fix up and optimize some of the key post-processing and rendering effects to make the game pop. We’ll see what they bring to the table when October 17th rolls around.
