GTA 5 Liberty City Fan Mod Shut Down In Light Of Rockstar Mod Policy

Many GTA 5 fans should know by now, Rockstar and Take-Two Interactive have been in the news lately for their attempt(s) to shut down a popular modding tool for the open-world game. Well, it seems that they are back in the news for shutting down a much awaited mod that would have brought Liberty City to GTA 5.

Rockstar and Take-Two Interactive have been reported to be a bit mellow as of recent, but that has changed and it seems their strict modding policy has yet another mod caught in their cross-hairs and shut down; it’s none other than the Liberty City to GTA 5 mod.

The group behind the much awaited popular GTA mod and the modding tool OpenIV announced the above in a post on the GTA forums that it had to stop its work on the “liberty City in GTA V” mod:

Unfortunately, our highly anticipated mod “Liberty City in GTA V” will not be released because it clearly contradicts with Rockstar modding policy. Liberty City mod is a big loss for us, since it was a huge part of our motivation to push OpenIV functionality.”

According to the team, the mod would have allowed players to import the GTA IV setting known as Liberty City into the fifth title. However, the team explained that the project was crossing into violation territory that Rockstar’s modding policy prohibits, thus leading to the most recent action that sees the mod having to be shut down.

The news follows shortly after a recent fiasco where Take-Two Interactive went after the single-player modding community, sending C&D letters to the creator of OpenIV that he was enabling people and players to “harass” the GTA Online community.

Although the Liberty City mod may be in the bin as of this moment, the team behind the Open IV project has announced it will continue working on OpenIV, even with Rockstar’s modding policy in place.
