Islands Of Nyne Video Breaks Down What It Does Better Than PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds

More than 10 minutes of gameplay footage was revealed for the upcoming Islands of Nyne, a new Battle Royale-style game set within a virtual world where multiple players will attempt to kill each other and survive through various battle arenas. The video covers what’s currently working in the game, what they need to fix, and what it also does better than PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds.

YouTuber LevelCapGaming posted up the new video that you can check out below, featuring some real-time gameplay footage for the upcoming title.

The game starts in a holding facility and players are then dropped into a virtual arena. The Unreal Engine 4 game mirrors the other Battle Royale-style games, where up to 100 players will have to survive before time runs out or the zone collapses after an ever-shrinking dome kills all the players inside.

Players start with nothing but a knife, which can be used to either stab or throw at other players. Loot is available throughout the arena in red crates, which contain a wide variety of modern-day weaponry, including pistols, shotguns, assault rifles and sniper rifles.

According to LevelCapGaming, the gameplay pace is really well done and focuses more-so on keeping players moving and engaged in combat.

The real trick is that unlike other Battle Royale games, the plasma field in Islands of Nyne is constantly moving, forcing players to stay within the dome and keep engaging each other in deathmatch scenarios.

The quality of the game design was praised in the video, and as evident in the video itself, the animation system is solid for the weapons and reloading, and the visual aesthetic is solid enough. There are a lot of missing post-processing effects, and the shaders are about as generic as a free-to-play shooter from 2010.

One funny part about the game is that waiting rooms aren’t actually waiting rooms: they’re team deathmatch rooms.

As everyone loads into a lobby to wait for the actual match to start, players will be able to kill each other in TDM mini-games while they wait.

LevelCapGaming also praised Islands of Nyne for its first-person only design because it forces players to rely on skill such as aiming and reflexes instead of the peeking mechanics oftentimes relied upon in games like PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds.

Islands of Nyne is still a long ways off from release, and is scheduled to release in late 2017. For more info feel free to visit the official website.
