Square Enix and Disney Interactive’s Kingdom Hearts 3 is shaping up to be a rather large-scale project. Not only will it include Big Hero 6 content, but a new trailer from the annual D23 event has revealed that Woody, Buzz Lightyear and the rest of the gang from Pixar’s Toy Story will also make the cut.
The new five and a half minute long trailer gives us a look at the new and improved Sora, along with the other characters who will join him in his adventure across both Disney and Square Enix worlds. You can check out the trailer below from the official Kingdom Hearts YouTube channel.
The trailer starts by showcasing the game’s new Shotlock mechanics, where Sora is gliding around shooting enemies like in a bullet-hell game.
We also get to see some of the other weapons briefly as well, including the Double Arrowguns and the
Magic Launchers. A Hyper Hammer and a Drill Punch also briefly get demonstrated when Sora and the others team up with Woody and Buzz to go to the Galaxy Toys store in order to defeat Organization XIII.
We get to see the group fighting through Andy’s house and out into the front yard. We then get to see a brief look at the toy store and some of the mechs that players can utilize in order to fight off the Heartless.
At the end of the trailer we finally find out when Square is planning on releasing the game, and it’s 2018.
It’s pretty obvious that the game won’t be releasing at the tail end of the three years that Square Enix originally hinted at for both Kingdom Hearts 3 and the Final Fantasy VII: Remake.
The game will also appear on Xbox One and PS4. A shame it’s not coming to PC or the Switch, but then again… it’s still a year out from release so anything can happen.
