Layton’s Mystery Journey: Katrielle And The Millionaires’ Conspiracy Replaces The Professor With His Daughter

Level 5 announced that the mobile version of Layton’s Mystery Journey: Katrielle and the Millionaires’ Conspiracy will officially launch for iOS and Android devices starting July 20th. The game will also appear on Nintendo’s 3DS this autumn, just in time for the holiday season.

Layton’s Mystery Journey doesn’t feature Professor Layton in the title role this time around, but rather Katrielle Layton and her pet dog. She’s accompanied by newcomers Emiliana Perfetti and Ernest Greeves.

The quartet of witty characters go on a mystery adventure where they have to talk to various individuals and solve unique puzzles to progress the story. The game’s release date announcement was accompanied by a trailer that you can check out below.

The four minute trailer does a quick recap of the Professor before joining Katrielle and her talking dog, Sherl.

Katrielle’s introduction takes place with a daring leap from a bridge onto a barge traveling in the river below, indicating that she’s attempting to be just as witty as she is physical.

We learn that Katrielle is the Professor’s daughter, and even though the Professor was contacted to solve the mystery, Katrielle steps up to the plate instead.

Just like the other games in the series, there are typical collections of various mini-games featuring different puzzles to solve, ranging from numerical challenges to logic problems.

The remainder of the trailer is composed of the series’ iconic animated sequences, with Katrielle doing a whole lot of Phoenix Wright-style finger pointing whenever she puts some weight behind her guesswork.

Some people still wanted the Professor back in the lead role, but it looks like Level 5 is moving forward with his daughter. The voice acting was surprisingly better than it had any right to be, and the story seems like it would probably make for a better TV mini-series than a game.

You can look for it to release later this month for mobile devices and later this year for the Nintendo 3DS.
