The PlayStation 3 emulator, RPCS3, has been coming along at a startling rate. In fact, gamers have been testing all manner of PS3 titles on the PlayStation 3 emulator, and they discovered that Atlus’ Persona 5 is mostly playable on the emulator.

The official RPCS3 YouTube channel posted up a quick video showing the progress they’ve made with emulating Sony’s PS3, and they have almost completely accurate sound emulation, and many of the cut-scenes work proper, but there is some obvious slow-down when it comes to the in-game frame-rate. The music and sound effects are a heck of a lot more accurate than I would have imagined. The roaming may be kind of slow, but the in-game combat is extremely accurate.

Compared to the last release, they’ve also managed to fix some of the color distortion during cinematics, as well as clear up the texture filtering.

There’s still some minor slow-down in various segments that still needs fixing, but otherwise it looks good.

Most impressive are some of the other games running on the PS3 emulator, such as Katamari Forever, Soul Calibur 3 and Scott Pilgrim vs The World. YouTuber Reznoire has a quick near-four minute compilation of various PS3 games running almost 100% proper on the emulator. Check it out below.

A lot of the games actually seem to be about on par to what you would expect from native PS3 play. It’s amazing how far along the PS3 emulator has progressed given that most people thought that it would be decades before a proper PS3 emulator came onto the scene due to all the SPUs and the confusion surrounding the Cell processor. However, the emulator creators proved everyone wrong by making a PS3 emulator faster and more efficient before a decent OG Xbox emulator was made.
