Sonic Comics Will Continue, Despite Sega Severing Ties To Archie Comics

The official Sonic Twitter account sent out a message informing the audience that Sega has officially severed ties with Archie Comics when it comes to producing Sonic The Hedgehog comic books. The message further states that they will continue to produce Sonic comics, just not with Archie.

For those of you who have problems reading it due to how blurry it is, the text states…

“After 24 years of memorable storytelling, Sega of America will conclude their Sonic the Hedgehog publishing partnership program with Archie Comics. This does not mark the end of Sonic in comics, but signifies Sega of America’s decision to take a different direction for the series that will be announced at a later date. Sega would like to thank Sonic’s amazing fans for their loyalty and passion over all the years. Sega looks forward to providing more information soon.”

This is the same publication that runs the actual Archie comics. They’ve been publishing Sonic The Hedgehog since 1993 more than 25 years ago.

Archie Comics also produces Mega Man comics and have been doing so for the last six years, along with a variety of other Sonic comic books.

Sega doesn’t say exactly what led them to separating from Archie Comics, despite the fact that Archie has seen a resurgence lately with the new TV show and the horror line, apparently Sega isn’t too happy with the comics that Archie have been producing for Sonic.

Monkeys Fighting Robots had reported about the rumor of the cancellation an entire month before Sega made the news official, and even they couldn’t place a real reason on why Sega decided to separate from Archie, but Sega promises that we haven’t seen the last of the blue hedgehog in the comic space.
