Disruptor Beam recently announced that Star Trek: Timelines has officially launched on Steam. The game was originally available on mobile devices for the iPhone and Android, but the developers figured they could squeeze some extra dosh out of the title with it being on Valve’s digital storefront.

Star Trek: Timelines is a free-to-play game where players assemble a crew from the various timelines of Starfleet Command due to a time-space temporal anomaly that allows characters and heroes from the long lineage of the series to become available for players to use throughout the sci-fi strategy RPG.

According to Erin Prince, the product owner of Star Trek Timelines at Disruptor Beam, it was mentioned in the press release that this is the first time that the game has made its way to Steam and that they won’t stop providing content for gamers…

“Star Trek Timelines on Steam is a major achievement, both in giving our fans more options to engage in the Star Trek universe and for Disruptor Beam as this is our first Steam release ever,” “This was long requested by our community, and now we can deliver a continuous Timelines experience across all platforms.”

There’s a short 30 second gameplay clip that you can check out below, which gives you just the core basics of what to expect from the new release.

Surprisingly, the 3D graphics don’t look as bad as I thought they would. The fact that you can hop into different ships spanning the timeline as well as battle it out in actual 3D encounters is pretty cool.

Also the classic Jerry Goldsmith theme playing during the trailer really helps sell the concept of the game. It was one of the things sorely missing from that abomination Star Trek: Bridge Crew.

I haven’t really been into free-to-play games since the South Korean market for MMOs basically went bust at the turn of the eighth gen, but if you wanted to check out Disruptor Beam’s free-to-play take on the Star Trek franchise, you can do so by visiting the Steam store page. The game also supports cross-platform multiplayer, so you can play with people across their phones, tablets or personal computers.
