Final Fantasy XV Coming To Steam Early 2018

Square Enix announce during this year’s GamesCom 2017 event in Cologne, Germany that Final Fantasy XV would be arriving on PC for Windows in early 2018.

The Steam store page is currently live right now, and it promises some high-end graphical features, including HDR 10, native 4K resolutions at 3840 x 2160, support for up to 8K resolution, and special graphical features made available courtesy of Nvidia.

This should come as no surprise given that Square Enix demonstrated some of the Luminous Engine tech on PC, running on Nvidia hardware during GDC. Usually when that happens it means that they’re prepping for a port. Crytek did the exact same thing when they demonstrated some of the newer features of the Cryengine using Crysis 2 on Xbox 360 hardware, and then later announced that Crysis 2 was coming to Xbox 360 and PS3.

In this case, PC gamers not only get the full single-player campaign, but Square is also bundling in all of the previously released DLC from the season pass, along with special first-person modes, and the online cooperative mode that allows multiple players to team up and battle monsters around the world of Eos.

It was pretty obvious that one of Square’s best selling games had to make its way to PC given that Square Enix has gone full AAA-publisher and they want that money; they need it.

Every publisher worth their salt sees the benefits of tapping that honey pot that is Valve’s userbase on Steam, especially if the port is done right and a lot of word of mouth spreads around about the quality of the port.

Anyway, Final Fantasy XV is a tragic love tale about Noctis and his boy band traveling to go meet up with his bride to be. Only, things don’t quite go as planned, and Noctis’ world spirals out from underneath his toodle-toed boots.

If you haven’t played the game yet, you can look for it to launch on PC starting early next year.
