A new hardcore, action-RPG set in a futuristic, sci-fi, apocalyptic universe called Immortal: Unchained has been announced for the Xbox One, PS4 and PC. The game is set to launch in 2018 under the new publisher Sold Out and the Swedish developer Toadman Interactive.
There are a lot of sci-fi ARPGs out there, so obviously a lot of people are probably wondering what separates Immortal: Unchained from games like The Technomancer. Well, it uses a point-of-contact system for the combat, whether it’s long range or melee oriented attacks. You can disarm opponents by attacking the weapon they’re holding in their hands, or simply attempt to subdue them by attacking specific body parts.
According to Sarah Hoeksma, the marketing director of Sold Out, they are aiming to focus on an action-oriented game that puts a strong focus on the combat, and having a quality system for players to utilize, saying in the press release…
“Immortal: Unchained is a fresh new take on the hardcore RPG genre,” “We wanted to craft an intriguing story and strategic combat system to set ourselves apart from the other titles out there. The game is certainly not for the faint-hearted, and we’re eager to share it with those who are brave enough to check it out at Gamescom.”
I can’t help but feel as if the game is some sort of spiritual successor to Silicon Knights’ Too Human. There’s definitely a lot of similarities there in terms of art-style and aesthetic themes.
Of course, images and still pictures only tell a small part of the story. I’m sure a lot of gamers are keen on seeing what the actual game looks like in motion. Sold Out rolled out a GamesCom 2017 teaser trailer at this year’s event in Cologne, Germany, which you can check out below.
Yeah… definitely getting some Too Human vibes from this one.
The game will combine long-range over-the-shoulder shooting with the up-close melee combat, almost like mixing elements of God of War and Lords of the Fallen with Gears of War. I’m also getting some slight vibes from The Surge in there.
Immortal: Unchained is still a long ways off from release, and you shouldn’t expect it to arrive anytime soon. You can expect it to arrive on the Xbox One, PS4 and PC in 2018.
