During this year’s GamesCom in Cologne, Germany, TaleWorld Entertainment unleashed a new demonstration for the upcoming Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord. The video features nine minutes of archers, cavalry, and some axe-wielding hack-and-slash gameplay.
The video starts with some archers forming up and firing off some shots, as Battania takes on the Empire in a fight within a village. Things eventually begin to break down and the horses ride through the town, the axemen begin slashing and hacking away at their foes, and bodies begin to litter the ground. You can check it out below.
Part of the highlight of the video is the all new Captain Mode. The purpose of the mode is to allow a single player to captain other soldiers on the field, so there’s a more intimate presence during combat.
I can’t help but feel that when the northmen are duking it out, it seems more like For Honor than For Honor.
Graphically the game also looks solid enough. It’s set to arrive on the PS4 and Xbox One, so I wonder how much downgrading will take place in order to make the game playable at decent frame-rates on the aging seventh-gen consoles?
Anyway, the Captain Mode will allow people to quickly and conveniently direct their troops around the field and carry out specific actions. You get to see a bit more of it in play in a second GamesCom video below.
The second video explains how you can use Captain Mode to take command of a small group of AI soldiers and have them perform certain actions such as tactical formations or attack patterns while in a specific area.
The video also covers some of the game’s other modes, such as the Flag Mode, as well as the different types of soldiers, and what roles they play while in in the multiplayer game.
Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord is due for release at some undetermined time in the future for PC, PS4 and Xbox One. But expect the console version to be severely gimped compared to the glorious PC version.
