Frostpunk Is A City-Building Survival Game Where Heat Is A Fleeting Resource

11 Bit Studios recently announced that their game Frostpunk is on the way. The title comes from the same minds who brought you This War of Mine, a war-based survival game that managed to turn some heads and win some awards.

The indie-made title is a survival city-builder simulator. The objective is to keep your citizens alive by keeping the heat on. It may sound simple, but when extreme weather conditions put your people at risk, and resources begin to run thin, some difficult choices must be made. You can check out the “Heartbeats” trailer below that introduces you to the harsh and unforgiving world of Frostpunk.

This game is a hard-edged look at survival.

For instance, while you attempt to build refineries or other structures, you’ll have to make decisions about child labor: do you keep kids working around dangerous equipment and forcing them to work into the midnight hours of the night, or do you keep them safe and sound? Without kids you don’t have a future for the settlement.

You also have to choose as to what sort of “additives” go into the food supply: do you add saw dust to give your dwellers a little bit of something extra to chew on, even at the expense of making them sick? Or do you let them nibble on the little bits of food you have while they contemplate starvation?

These choices extend to the treatment, exploration, transportation and infrastructure of your city.

It’s an interesting kind of game that seems to take 11 Bit Studios’ penchant for morally-gray and conscientious decision-making from This War of Mine and expand that microcosm of survival to a grander scale, set within a city-building simulator.

There’s no release date set for Frostpunk just yet, but you can keep track of this intriguing new survival game by visiting the Steam store page.
