Sidebar Games’ Golf Story is one of the many new games that have launched recently for the Nintendo Switch. The quirky role-playing game is currently available right now over on the Nintendo eShop for $14.99.
The launch trailer for the game features a minute and a half worth of gameplay, showcasing all of the weird, unique, strange, bizarre, hilarious, fun, destructive, and outlandish ways you can play golf in the game.
Players will attempt to become a pro golfer and must complete a number of challenges along the way in order to do so. Sidebar mixes in basic golf-style gameplay with a healthy mixture of mini-games and various skill-shot challenges to keep the game feeling fresh. You can check out the launch trailer below to see what it’s like.
You’ve got to love the Billy Madison and Caddyshack references in the splash art.
Anyway, one of the game’s gimmicks is being able to play golf practically anywhere. This includes shooting balls at cars, at people, at buildings, at animals, and any and everything else in between. There are eight different environments to explore, along with various golf courses, challenges, and side-quests to complete.
You’ll need to be able to upgrade your golfer by solving puzzles and completing said quests in order to improve your skillset and purchase new equipment.
The game also features some non-golf related mini-games such as using drones to fly around the stages, mowing the lawn, participating in RC races, and even doing a bit of geocaching for those of you with a treasure hunter’s heart tucked away at the bottom of your tee.
A lot of people are describing Golf Story as Mario Golf meets Earthbound. I tend to think of that as a fitting description.
You can pick up a copy of the game right now from over on the Nintendo eShop, or you can learn more by visiting the official Golf Story website.
